An Inside ‘Take’ on All Things Viewlet

Your brand is your identity. Getting your message across to your customers in a consistent and recognizable fashion is an integral part of an effective brand. Many factors make up a brand, but one of the most important elements is, believe it or not, color. When I mention color and brands, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Perhaps a company logo? True, but it is so much more than that.

When it comes to e-Learning, content authors know that color choices within their videos (their brand), are an important design element. It may include corporate logos, but also attention needs to be paid to backgrounds, images, and such, so that the video's colors engages learners enough to retain their attention, but doesn't visually overwhelm them.

ViewletBuilder8 and ViewletQuiz5 offer a unique tool within its various Color dialogues, known as the 'Eye Dropper' tool. This tool, when used properly, allows a Viewlet Author to 'sample' different colors from different parts visible on their screen. Once chosen by the eye dropper, the color can then be added to a custom palette for use immediately or at a later time. This allows the author total control over the color 'branding' used within their videos.

To get started using the color sampling tool:

  1. Select the slide or slide element (shape, text, etc.) that you want to add color to.
  2. Open the applicable Color dialog.
  3. Click on the 'eye dropper' tool to the right of the Color dialog.
  4. When the cursor changes to an eye dropper shape move your mouse over your screen. You will see a small preview of the color as it changes as you move your mouse along with its applicable RGB colors.
  5. Left click to select the desired color sample.
  6. Add the sampled color to your Custom Color palette (if desired).
  7. Click OK to accept/apply the sampled color to your slide/selected slide element.

Select it, sample it, color it, brand it. It's that easy and will definitely prove to be a great ROI, especially as you use it to develop brand recognition.

That's it for this blog.

Until next time...
Happy Viewleting!
