An Inside ‘Take’ on All Things Viewlet

Let's face it. Technology changes at an extremely rapid pace these days and with it so do the tools we work with, including our computers. As a result, we are faced with the dilemma of moving or re-installing our software applications and making sure they are registered each time. How can we do this without abusing any licensing policies? If you are a Viewlet Author using ViewletBuilder or ViewletQuiz, it's simple. There is a process already in place for scenarios such as these to help you avoid issues when having to install and register your authoring application licenses multiple times. It's called the license activation and deactivation process.

In fact, you might be surprised to know Qarbon developed this process many years ago to help authors in just such situations. First, you should activate your license before you create your Viewlets.

License Activation
1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet.

2. Open your Viewlet Authoring application.

3. Select Help > License Activation.

4. In the dialog that opens, follow the steps to activate your license.

5. Click the Finish button to close the dialog.

Next, if you are ever going to re-install your ViewletBuilder or ViewletQuiz application on your existing computer (due to a system wipe/upgrade) or on another computer, you MUST first deactivate it on the existing computer. Failure to do this may result in Qarbon suspending your license, which will cause you to revert back to the trial version. If this happens, you then would have to contact Qarbon to resolve the license re-registration issue. To avoid this, here are the steps to deactivate your license for use on another computer:

License Deactivation
1. Make sure you are connected to the Internet.

2. Open your Viewlet Authoring application.

3. Select Help > License Deactivation.

4. In the dialog that opens, follow the steps to deactivate your license.

5. Click the Finish button to close the dialog.

Once the license is deactivated, you can then activate it again on another computer.

To learn more about the license activation and deactivate process, check out one of these videos (in the format of your choice) for more information:

So, remember, before you let IT upgrade your computer by wiping it clean of all applications or before you move your authoring apps to another computer, deactivate your license first to avoid any registration issues later.

That's it for this blog.

Until next time...
Happy Viewleting!
