Passing a username to a Viewlet from a back end process

Postby Jo » Tue Nov 16, 2010 12:54 pm

Typically a user authenticates in the Viewlet via the login panel. The username they enter is passed along to ViewletCentral or the Qarbon Email Reporting System.
A customer may instead authenticate the user via a back end process on their web server before serving up the web page containing the Viewlet. They can then pass the username on to the Viewlet so that the username gets passed along to the specified reporting system. This can be accomplished by adding the parameter “?student_id=username" to the URL that serves up the Viewlet HTML file. The back end process will need to add the username.

For example, if the the URL of the Viewlet is

it would become

For ViewletCentral users:

"http://www.viewletcentral.com/vc/viewlet/308712324/?student_id=username" will accomplish the same thing.
