Tips for converting video into SWF

Postby Michal » Tue May 04, 2010 5:45 am

ViewletBuilder doesn't have the feature to embed video into a Viewlet slide directly now. The solution is to use the embed movie feature for this purpose. To be able to embed a video we also need to convert the video movie to a SWF file. One tool which we could recommend is the Sothink Video Encoder for Adobe Flash. It is very easy to use, but the default SWF movie created by this application could cause issues, when the SWF movie is embedded into the Viewlet, in case the viewlet size is scaled:

The "Scale To Fit Web Page" option

In this case, the SWF created by the Sothink Video Encoder for Adobe Flash will rescale the viewlet to it's original dimension, which is caused by the Sothing Video Encoder skin. To solve this issue we've built a customized skin for the encoder, which we recommend to use. To use the skin, download the

file and unzip the content into the Sothink Video Encoder for Adobe Flash install directory, under the "Skins" folder. Then simply choose the skin from the skins list:

Be patient and don't forget to check the "Use a skin" check box in order to create the SWF with the "NoScale" skin, otherwise no skin would be used and the video would rescale the Viewlet.

I hope this will help you embed the video into your Viewlet.
