How to improve compile times on projects with lots of audio

Postby James » Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:01 pm

Dear Users,

One of the default features of ViewletBuilder6 is the ability at compile time to alter the quality of the sound files. Many people will use this to
make the project size smaller since the lower the quality the smaller the file sizes get. The default is High Quality. I personally don't like the
sound below High Quality but this is a personal preference.

If you have recorded within or added a large number of sound files that are already in Mp3 format, the process of reconverting these files at compile
time can be very time consuming and uses up alot of memory. I created a test project with 384 slides, each with 36 seconds of audio. When I previewed in a browser, it took over 7 minutes to compile because it had to reconvert all the Mp3 to the High Quality setting. When I turned the reconversion off it took on 26 seconds.

Here is the trick.

Go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and click on Change Java Settings

Add to the empty field
Code: Select all

Another trick you can do is increase your Max Memory to 1024MB if you work with larger projects on average. This will give you
more breathing room to work with. The default is 512MB.

Click ok and restart ViewletBuilder.

Please let me know if this helps!
